Three years after returning from the Schwarzwald, Kathe is struggling with single motherhood in the rural village of Greene Daal after her partner Nic mysteriously vanished, leaving her to raise their daughters alone. She works to bridge the divide between the original villagers and the magical settlers who followed her home, but her fragile peace is shattered when strange incidents begin plaguing the community—petty thefts, a woman with no memory appearing at the village edge, and mounting tensions between the two groups. When Kathe discovers that someone is stealing not just possessions but memories and magical gifts, she fears a connection to her own lost powers years before. As the mystery deepens and danger closes in on her family, Kathe must confront the possibility that the threat may be closer than anyone suspects, and that stopping it will require her to embrace the full extent of her restored abilities—and face truths about her past she’s been trying to escape.
